When you view any product on Baopals, you’ll want to keep an eye out for the Baopals score. You’ll find it just right of the product name, and again in the detailed ratings below the product.
How is the Baopals score determined?
The Baopals score aggregates and weighs several important pieces of information: the product quality, seller service, and shipping speed. On Taobao and Tmall, users can give ratings on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the best score. In addition, you can see the quantity sold of the product. The amount of sales for any particular item is a strong indicator of the speed and reliability of the seller. Generally, we’ve found that products with at least 500 quantity sold are a safe choice. Products with sales volume below 500 have an increasing risk of the following issues: unavailable stock, slow shipping, poor seller service, and poor product quality.
Because of the way we calculate the Baopals score, you may notice great differences at times between Taobao/Tmall ratings and our score. We've adjusted it to round down because scores on Taobao/Tmall tend to be inflated. We believe the Baopals score provides a more reliable measure of a product’s quality and trustworthiness, and we will keep monitoring and adjusting to make this score as accurate as possible for our customers.
We strongly caution you from making these purchases without doing the following first:
1. Compare products. Look around to see if there are other sellers of the same product with a higher quantity sold.
2. Keep en eye out for that handy Tmall Seller Badge when looking at products. Here’s what it looks like (it's also pictured in the screenshot above):
The Trusted Seller Badge ensures the seller is a verified Tmall Seller. Tmall sellers have a minimum of 3 years’ operating experience in mainland China, and are very likely to be responsive and reliable even when the quantity sold is low. For more information, check out our guide here.
3. Check the Product Details. If there are numerous professional photos along with additional text information, it’s a safer bet.
4. Ask us! Leave a question under product Q&A or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org asking about the reliability of the product. We will assess the risk associated with purchasing the product and pass the information directly to you along with our suggestion of whether or not you should purchase.
