We Visited The LELO Factory!

2020 has been a crazy year for everyone, and many of us have had a lot more time on our hands to explore some of the *finer pleasures* in life. Here at Baopals, we have noticed a huge boost in traffic to our Sexual Wellness Department in recent months.

LELO is a Swedish adult toys and accessories brand sold throughout the world that has received many awards for their thoughtfully designed and innovative products. After noticing that their products were receiving some attention on Baopals, LELO invited us to visit their factory, located in picturesque Suzhou. Needless to say, we were pretty... titillated.

The LELO factory employs approximately 200 people and manufactures 5,000-10,000 products per day. All of their products are very carefully assembled using medical grade silicone, and many include a motor, a battery and other specialized electrical components. Everything must meet stringent safety standards, and pass extensive product testing before it reaches the hands of the customer.

"We take our product quality and testing very seriously," LELO's Engineering Director Michael Duff told us. "Some of the mechanical components of our products are assembled in the factory, while other incoming materials are checked thoroughly before they hit the production line."

Some of the product tests we learned about were very creative. They include testing them in the following situations: one meter of water, a bathtub simulator, an airplane cargo hold simulator (because sometimes you need something extra on your trip!), an environmental chamber that ages them up to five years, spraying them with salt to test any plated components and running them for up to 120 hours to test the battery life.

These toys can withstand a lot!

The people selected to test product functionality come from a wide variety of backgrounds, taking age, personal taste, experience, etc. into consideration. They are asked to give detailed feedback about the design, vibration intensity and speed of the product. We're sorry to say they are not currently hiring any new product testers!

After the products are assembled, they are taken to an air-flow, humidity and temperature controlled room to set any glue and make sure there isn't any unpleasant glue odor. Then they are taken to their final quality control check, where everything is tested again and the toys are polished and cleaned.

For the final step, the products are taken to the packaging room, where they are tested again, inspected and sealed in their box with a charger, lubricant, instruction manual, etc. They are packaged in special shock absorbing boxes and sent out to different warehouses throughout the world.

Interested in trying it out for yourself? We asked LELO's Product Development Manager Juanita Salcedo for a few recommendations. They will have some nice promotions for the upcoming 11.11 sale, so be sure to check their official shop again in a few days!
