You may have heard of some of the amazing health benefits of apple cider vinegar. It's been a popular form of traditional folk medicine for centuries, and people all over the world use it today in lieu of coffee or weight loss products. It can also be used as an effective household cleaning agent and ingredient in salad dressings, marinades and more.
Here are some of the reported health benefits that thousands of people swear by:
- relieves heartburn and stomach pain from indigestion
- boosts immune system and detoxes the body
- eliminates dandruff
- boosts energy
- increases metabolism and helps control hunger
- lowers blood sugar
- alleviates allergies
- controls acne and oily skin
These are pretty big claims, so we decided to have two of our staff members give it a try and report back.
We decided to go with a high grade ACV from Bragg, one of the most well known and trusted brands on the market as its ACV is unfiltered, unheated and unpasteurized. Their ACV also includes the "mother" of the vinegar, a form of cellulose and acetic acid bacteria that develops during the fermentation process that also claims to have many health benefits.
While many recommend drinking it 3 times a day, we started off with drinking a full shot glass of ACV twice a day. Once first thing in the morning and once before dinner. Here's what we have to report!

G-Money, Female, 24 years old, 50kg
I first started drinking the ACV straight, convincing myself it tasted delicious. However, that feeling wore off quickly and after one week I began to loathe even the smell of it. Eventually I started mixing it with water and some agave syrup, which helps make it go down easier.
One of the first things I noticed is that it had an amazing effect on my digestive system. Taking it first thing in the morning really helped clear out my intestines (if you catch my drift) and I have not had any digestive issues that I have had reoccurring issues with in the past since I started drinking it. Sometimes I would feel a mild burning feeling in my stomach after drinking it on an empty stomach, but I started drinking a glass of water immediately after and this problem went away. I think doing that creates a feeling of fullness that some people say helps them control their hunger and lose weight.
I also tried patting some of my skin with a cotton pad as a toner and noticed it would dry up any oil on my skin immediately. I generally don't have acne but I think that it would be beneficial for someone that is prone to breaking out.
My conclusion: I would continue to take ACV semi-regularly because of the clear benefits to my digestive system, and use it if I noticed that my skin was more oily than usual. I do wish that it tasted better though!
Cramson, Male, 28 years old, 100kg
I’m a 100kg, 1.88m, 28 year old male coming to terms that his body is not what it once used to be. I’ve never held much stock in superfoods, organic dieting or any of that stuff. So when I heard about the medicinal miracles of ACV, I instinctively associated it with likes of homeopathy or herbalism… something rooted more firmly in anecdotal evidence, not in science. However, I came to the realization that the placebo effect is rooted in science. All I had to do was simply believe that drinking this potion endorsed by Paul & Patricia Bragg, (Ph.D Life Extension Specialist and Ph.D Pioneer Health Crusader respectively) would cure all my ailments, physical and mental, then perhaps I would see some positive changes! I decided to give it a go.
I’ve been taking a shot of ACV in the morning and evenings for the past 4 weeks. I still believe it’s too soon to say whether or not I have seen any real medical benefits from taking ACV. What it has done is helped me become more aware of my health. I would go so far as to say that ACV has become an almost ritualistic experience in where I take a shot, gag and then get pumped to become healthy again.
There is one ACV remedy that I stand by, and that is its ability to combat dandruff. I've been plagued by some serious ruff my whole adult life. I've tried various dandruff shampoos, but to little avail. But after rinsing my hair with ACV for just a couple of days I was amazed by the results. I'm pretty much dandruff free!
